After living the Phrigya, Lydia, Persian, Pergamon and Roman periods it fell into

as a fortress-town aiming to defend and facing the meadow in a high
position. Birgi was
left to the ottomans in 1391. But after the Ankara War (1402) it was
re-tied to the Aydinogullari. Even though it stayed under the control of
Cüneyt Bey for a period of time
it was taken into Ottoman control by the 2nd Murat . Birgi served as a center of a
district tied to the Aydın sub-providence in the Ottoman period. |

| Aydınoğlu Mehmet Bey Mosque
: which was made in the period of
the principalities (1312), has a unique immportance with its minaret with its
attractive brick work and its minbar with its wonderful wood work. The minaret of the mosque carries the effects of the Seljuk period. A cylinderical
body made of brick was placed intransitivly on the base made of smooth cut rocks. Motifs
of diamond like shapes made of smooth cut rocks. Motifs of diamond like shapes made by
arranging red bricks and fruze (blue-green
colour) colored glazed bricks diaogonally are
seen on the body. The framework of the shapes' and the diamond -like shapes' centers were
marked with red bricks. The same glazed bricks are arranged in the part of the minaret
that lies between the serefe and the külah in a way to form zigzags. The minaret
resembles that of the Iznik Green Mosque's (1378) in that way. Similar applications are seenn in many
minarets. |

The konak - mansion - was built between 1761 and
1764 by a wealthy local merchant named Tahir Ağa
of the Çakır family (although
some sources give the builder as Mehmet Ağa or Şerif
Ali Ağa).
On the ground floor is a waiting room for guests,
a kitchen, stable, and flagged hall. The winter
living rooms on the second floor contain
fireplaces and fitted bathing closets. The walls
and ceilings of the rooms on the first and second

painted decoration on plaster known as kalem işi.
Çakır Tahir Ağa had two wives, one from

missed their home cities he had scenes of these
cities painted on the walls of two of the rooms.
