GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY |
| In Turkey
geothermal energy is second in importance after oil and
has reached high standards of cleanliness. The geothermal
energy generation in the Aegean region has gained momentum
recently. New investments in this area are expected to be
made in Izmir.
In the upcoming years İzmir and Seferihisar will also
benefit from this energy. The drilling activities for
provision of hot water to meet the needs of the Aliağa
oil refinery are continuing.

The
Organized Trade Manufacturing Zone, included in our
chamber's work program of 2000, plays an important role
with regard to wholesale and retail trade. It is planned
to establish this zone on an area of 350 hectares in
Menderes within the borders of Tekeli Municipality. The
studies related to this area are being conducted by a
cooperative, established by our chamber following the
request of our standing committees.
The objective is to create a role model of a new trade
zone with housing and social infrastructure.

CONGRESS
CENTRE |
| There is no
congress centre in Izmir that can host international
organizations. This is a great deficiency for a city that
aims to be a world class city. In addition to the cultural
premises within the World Trade Centre, there should also
be a modern congress palace.
